i’m inclined to say good things about animations. and this is no exception. i like it. i would have liked it more if i were a 10 year-old (obviously the target audience for this), what with its vapid dialogue and constant action with barely a storyline being developed. but i like it nonetheless. but i don’t think it would warrant a strong recommendation from me to everyone else. its competitor wall-e is thrashing it horribly. and i am seeing wall-e tonight. let us see how this goes?

the images are still stuck in my head. it has been almost 1 week now since i was exposed to this film. no, it doesn’t affect my sleep at night, not like the previous horror films. for that i am thankful. but i think i would get by my days better if i weren’t randomly accosted by images of 4 hot thai guys bested by rapids…

disclaimer: i know how difficult it is to perform, and worse, perform in front of a singaporean audience. we’re particularly difficult, being so critical sometimes that anything less than perfect we pick on and use that to tear apart the performer’s confidence, piece by piece, all the way to shreds. we’re like vultures, waiting for the fall, and then we can feast at our carrion-prey’s expense. it is the ultimate law of nature, and we adore it. throw in that this was a competition, my sympathy to those who were subject to our heinous scrutiny.

disclaimer done, i expected more from an annual a-cappella competition, especially from the “college” category. it was a basic assumption that when you’re in varsity, you have more time to pursue passions, and not everybody forms a-cappella groups for the sheer fun of it. there’s usually this extra spark or two, some talent at the least, and a desire to be part of a work of vocal art. i’m not exactly disgruntled, because i DO understand how much guts are required to compete. but i must add i’m a little resigned as to the quality of talent that actually takes part in these events. leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because it’s an indication of how unsuccessful this art form is in attracting the participation of obvious vocal talents from generation to generation…

this only serves to emphasize how important our support is for these talents to be discovered and/or flourish. i wonder what i can do…?

kudos to wild rice for their most recent production directed by ivan heng. not that i understood all the jokes (because some of it was in malay), but at least the play satiated my need for some performance art. i’m not a big fan of plays in general, cos plays are often over-dramatised imho. however, there was just enough drama without being overboard, balanced by some apt humor. in gist, a thoroughly enjoyable experience, kudos again to wild rice.

special thanks to the person who helped to get the tickets too. =)
